I will be PM to take Britain out of European Union, says May

Attorney General Geoffrey Cox could face possible suspension from the House of Commons if the Speaker finds him in contempt of parliament, after opposition parties claimed he had failed to produce the full legal advice demanded by MPs.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Saturday urged British Prime Minster Theresa May to ensure stability as Britain leaves the European Union and asked her to do what she could to avoid a "no deal" Brexit. Opposition parties say their representatives will vote against the deal, and so have dozens of lawmakers from May's Conservative Party.

The Times reported Monday that the Northern Ireland's DUP, which props up May's fragile majority, is threatening to vote against her in such a motion.

He did not rule out the possibility of supporting a second referendum, saying "we shouldn't dismiss out of hand the idea of asking the people again what future they want".

British Prime Minister Theresa May's government fought on Monday to defend its Brexit deal by outlining the legal basis for parliament to support its agreement to leave the European Union, but instead seemed to fan the flames of rebellion. "I say to [Ms Harman] it wouldn't".

Appearing in the Commons, Mr Cox also admitted the United Kingdom would be "indefinitely committed" to the EU's customs rules should both sides fail to secure a trade deal by the end of the transition period.

May's opponents argue that Britain can renegotiate the deal for better terms. But defeat would increase the chances of Britain leaving without a deal - a possibility that could mean chaos for Britain's economy and businesses - and put May under fierce pressure to resign.

During an unprecedented statement to the Commons, Brexiteers and pro-EU MPs also seized on an admission by the Attorney General that May's compromise Brexit plan for Northern Ireland could apply "indefinitely".

But there were plenty of positives too for Arsenal , with Ramsey's performance a particular highlight. We didn't miss him (against Tottenham), whereas I thought Ramsey made an impact in the second half".

Both leaders said they looked forward to working more closely together on trade in the future, including the possibility of Britain joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

"We have got to recognise that if we don't vote for this, the alternatives are no deal or no Brexit".

Labour's Starmer also said on Sunday that it was "inevitable" his party would call a no-confidence vote if lawmakers reject May's deal.

As soon as the almost two-and-a-half hour grilling was over, Labour's shadow solicitor general stood up to demand a debate on the government being in contempt of parliament.

It follows a binding Commons vote last month requiring the government to lay before Parliament "any legal advice in full" - including that given by the attorney general - relating to the Withdrawal Agreement.

The Government's refusal to publish the full legal text could trigger a major constitutional crisis just days before MPs are due to vote on the Prime Minister's Brexit deal.

The backstop is intended as a temporary measure, but pro-Brexit lawmakers say it could leave Britain tied to the European Union indefinitely and unable to strike new trade deals around the world.
