Canada stands pat on Saudi arms sales, even after hearing Khashoggi tape

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau speaks to the media at the end of a two-day cabinet retreat in Calgary Alberta Canada

The hit squad believed to have killed the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi passed through Istanbul airport with a "torturer's toolkit" in their baggage, according to new leaks in the Turkish press. Which is very handy indeed.

National Security Advisor John Bolton said Tuesday that an audio recording that Turkish officials say links Saudi Arabian operatives to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi didn't appear to implicate Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to a report.

After repeated denials, Saudi Arabia finally admitted Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and Riyadh critic, had been murdered at the mission in a "rogue" operation. Within hours of the "fistfight" story, Saudi officials changed it to claiming he died in a choke-hold during an abduction attempt.

Erdogan did not elaborate on how and when the Saudi official heard the recording of the killing of the Saudi citizen.

The nomination of retired General John Abizaid to be the 31st US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia has been received with a sense of optimism in Washington as an overdue step by the Trump administration to revive US influence and restore diplomacy with Riyadh.

The first match of the Finals will take place between Anderson and Thiem before Federer locks horns with Nishikori later at night. But Federer is 37 now, and despite his success this season, he has struggled to produce his best tennis on a consistent basis.

The recording has been shared with Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the US, and Saudi Arabia, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday, per the report.

CNN has not heard the recording and is unable to verify the voices on the tape or what they're purported to say.

"At the current stage we believe an global investigation is a must", Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu was quoted as saying by the state-run Anadolu news agency. "When the Saudi intelligence agent listened, he was shocked and said this could only be done by someone who got heroin".

A few days ago, the same newspaper revealed Khashoggi's last words to the assassins who ended his life.

The assertion is backed up by Turkish intelligence officials, who told their American counterparts that Mutreb was speaking to one of Prince Mohammed's aides, the Times reports.

Meanwhile, the protests against Sarkar continue unabated. "I strongly condemn these", he added. There have been protests by AIADMK workers in the state against the film.

"The explanations which have been offered thus far by Saudi Arabia lack credibility and consistency", Freeland said Tuesday after meeting with union members in Windsor.

Erdogan has not given details of the contents of the tapes but two sources with knowledge of the issue have told Reuters that Turkey has several audio recordings.

Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen said he expects to see significant sanctions against the Saudis "targeted to the highest levels of the Saudi government".

However, Saudi officials denied that the crown prince had any knowledge of Khashoggi's killing.

They include the killing itself and conversations before the operation which Turkey subsequently uncovered, the sources said.

Liverpool still heading in the right direction - Klopp
I don't defend a corner, I don't press any players". Klopp said: "Trent has played constantly". I think you can feel it a little bit.

Pressing ahead with moves to maintain pressure on Saudi Arabia, Erdogan said the crown prince had told Turkish envoys that he would shed light on the October 2 killing at the kingdom's consulate and do what was "necessary".
