Florida deja vu as state election hit by chaos, fraud accusations

Marco Rubio

Scott held a 0.21 percentage lead over incumbent Democrat Sen.

"Mayor Gillum conceded on Election Day and now Broward County has put him 'back into play.' Bill Nelson conceded Election - now he's back in play!?"

People look on at a television screen broadcasting election results at the election night party for Florida Governor Rick Scott at the LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort in Naples. Scott accused Nelson of bringing in an attorney to "try to steal the election and try to thwart the will of the voters of Florida". President Donald Trump was very quick to tweet out his support of Scott.

Elias said it isn't "appropriate" for Scott to initiate a law enforcement investigation into vote counting when the governor is on the ballot as a candidate for Senate. He didn't elaborate on what the federal government could do, but added that "there are bad things that have gone on in Broward County".

Republicans are charging that elections officials in the two counties have a record of "incompetence and irregularities in vote tabulations" and pointing to a recent court ruling that Brenda Snipes, the Broward County elections supervisor, oversaw the illegal destruction of votes in a 2016 congressional contest.

The historic firsts of the 2018 midterms
Only one candidate for Congress this year is younger: Republican Morgan Murtaugh, who is running against Democratic U.S. Ms Davids is a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation and a former mixed martial arts fighter who was raised by a single mother.

"Once again this court finds that Broward County is under the nation's microscope because of an election", Phillips said in the ruling, according to a WFTV reporter Field Sutton.

A state judge on Friday sided with Florida Republican Rick Scott in ordering that Republicans be granted "immediate" access to requested information about ballots in Broward County, amid explosive lawsuits against the county's top election official. Bill Nelson is edging closer to GOP Gov. Rick Scott.

Mr Scott also said he was asking the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate.

Democrat Stacey Abrams, who hopes to become the nation's first black female governor, has mobilized volunteers and staff to reach voters who used provisional ballots to make sure their votes are counted by the Friday evening deadline.

Both Scott and Ron DeSantis are facing possible statewide recounts as previously uncounted votes narrow already razor-thin margins.

Women elected to House in record numbers
Democratic Colorado Governor-elect Jared Polis arrives onstage with running mate Dianne Primavera on November 6, 2018 in Denver. Kate Brown, who is bisexual, became the first openly LGBT person elected governor in 2016 when she won her OR race.

His election lawyer, Marc Elias, said on a conference call Thursday morning that by the end of the month, the senator will be preparing for a fourth term in Washington. Snipes claimed that this was because of the high volume of mail-in ballots which arrived before the deadline on Tuesday. Two days after voting has concluded, the Supervisor Of Elections is unwilling to disclose records revealing how many electors voted, how many ballots have been canvassed, and how many ballots remain to be canvassed.

Turns out that there are still a number of votes still to be counted in Maricopa and Broward counties. She has failed to follow state transparency laws during this election, and has a long history of misconduct, including preemptively destroying ballots. Republicans were alleging Snipes was knowingly committing voter fraud.

In a follow-up tweet, he said, "Don't worry, Florida - I am sending much better lawyers to expose the FRAUD!" - again without providing evidence of any such malfeasance.

Florida's major elections were breathtakingly close. "Every Floridian should be concerned there may be rampant fraud happening in Palm Beach and Broward counties".

"I don't know, you tell me", he snapped at a reporter.

Texas Senator John Cornyn Reacts To Attorney General Jeff Sessions Resignation
In 2017, Matthew "Matt" Whitaker wrote a scathing op-ed about the Mueller probe for CNN , arguing that it had gone too far. Whitaker , who is the current chief of staff to the attorney general , will take over the position temporarily.

"I think it is fair to say right now that the results of the 2018 Senate election are unknown and you and election officials should treat it as such", said Elias. The president ultimately disbanded the commission, which issued a report suggesting voter fraud is not almost as widespread as the president claims.
