Video of cop killer becomes Trump campaign push

Trump Tweets Controversial Video of Immigrant Cop Killer

Trump highlighted the case of Luis Bracamontes, a twice-deported immigrant from Mexico sentenced to death in California for killing two police officers.

A pair of Bush ads, one of which was the brainchild of Fox News founder Roger Ailes, depicted Dukakis - then the governor of MA - presiding over a "revolving door" prison system and giving out "weekend passes" to convicted murderers.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez characterised the ad as "distracting, divisive Donald at his worst". Dukakis went on to lose to Republican George H.W. Bush. That ad was part of a blitz by Trump's campaign, and his campaign manager, Brad Parscale, did several interviews to promote it. The campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump managed to condense his anti-immigrant fear-mongering ahead of the November 6 midterms into a single, 51-second advertisement, which even some on the right are immediately decrying as "racist".

Prince Turki Al-Faisal denounces demonization of Saudi Arabia
Germany and Switzerland have vowed to halt arms sales to Saudi Arabia until the case is clarified. A critic of the Saudi royal family, Khashoggi had been living in exile in the United States.

Democrats are generally favoured to win the 23 seats they need to gain a majority in the US House of Representatives, an advantage they could use to block Trump's agenda. President Trump was also joined by Rick Scott, who's looking to unseat Democrat Senator Bill Nelson. Republicans have a stronger chance of keeping control of the Senate, according to opinion polls and non-partisan forecasters.

The video is reminiscent of the infamous 1988 "Willie Horton" ad used against Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis and condemned as racist. The ad was widely criticised for emphasising that Horton was black.

Horton was a convicted murderer who went on a crime spree while on furlough from prison under a program supported by Dukakis, then governor of MA.

"This may be the most desperate and vile ad since Willie Horton", Reich said on Twitter.

Oprah, Pence visiting Georgia in deadlocked governor's race
Abrams is locked in a tight race with Republican Brian Kemp as she tries to become the nation's first black female governor . I'm not trying to test any waters", she said.

"The legacy of these sorts of ads and political plays are not good; they bring shame to the candidate and the people who worked on them", he added.

Bracamontes, an immigrant living in the country illegally, sports a shaved head and long chin hair and speaks in accented English in the video, and his words are clear: He's killed cops and he's "gonna kill more cops soon".

But the Trump campaign was behind the January 2018 video, released on its YouTube page, that featured Bracamontes's courtroom appearance.
