Osaka romps into Tokyo final

Naomi Osaka is currently the world number 7 in WTA rankings

Former world number one Karolina Pliskova utilized her big serve to full effect to ease to a 6-4 6-4 victory over home favorite and U.S. Open champion Naomi Osaka in the Pan Pacific Open final in Tokyo on Sunday.

Her serve wavered in the fifth game, however, allowing Pliskova to win the first break point of the match and take a 3-2 lead.

Osaka, who became the first Japanese player to win a grand slam with her US Open success earlier this month, eased through her semi-final, beating Italian Camila Giorgi 6-2 6-3 in 71 minutes.

Having not dropped a set over the course of the week, Osaka will next face a player who has needed three dramatic sets in each of her matches to reach her second final of the season.

Mignolet to start against Chelsea on Wednesday
It's not really hard . "For this to be really unsafe you need someone else making the run on the outside on the left". Because they are here because of what they did and now we have to work on that it fits.

The 20-year-old, looked at a loss for ideas against Pliskova, six years her senior, and buried her head in a towel during the changeover. "She was playing really well, and my serve helped me".

The same can not be said of Pliskova, who is excellent at the line. "She was missing quite a lot today and it was working, so I didn't change anything". "I haven't really had much time to rest, so I feel exhausted right now".

The Czech former world number one came into the contest having spent 419 minutes on court this week, more than any other player despite a first round bye and nearly twice as long as Osaka.

"I've literally never felt more exhausted in my entire life, so I kind of want to say the chances of me playing in the next tournament are very low", she said. "Stan is one of the best players in the world and I'm really proud of myself after I could beat him finally".

Mo Salah has won the Puskas Award
The impending absence of Ronaldo from Monday's gala has further fueled speculation that the 2018 ward is for Modric. Real Madrid shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois has just picked up the FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Pliskova added: "I know her game". Meanwhile, Osaka advanced to the third round and had Madison Keys on the ropes before the American rallied for the win.

"I've literally never felt more exhausted in my entire life", she told reporters, confessing that she needed some time off. "As I am feeling very exhausted today, maybe I wasn't doing the little things well".

"I think tomorrow is a completely different day", said Pliskova, who admitted to feeling exhausted during the second set. "But I believe I have a chance".

Third seed Osaka's defeat came a fortnight after she won the US Open final, which was overshadowed by beaten opponent Serena Williams' outburst at an umpire.
