Tariffs are greatest: Donald Trump

Trump Tapping $12B to Help Farmers Affected by Tariffs

The Trump administration was set to announce billions of dollars in aid for USA farmers on Tuesday to help protect them from the repercussions of trade spats between the United States and China, the European Union and others, a source familiar with the plan told Reuters. After Trump hit China with tariffs, they responded with a 179 percent retaliatory tariff on us sorghum.

The administration's plan will rely on commodity support programs in the farm bill as well as the Agriculture Department's authority to stabilize farmers during times of turmoil, according to a report in Politico.

The funds will come through direct assistance, a food purchase and distribution program, and a trade promotion program. Retaliatory tariffs against the United States have included additional export costs for soybeans, pork, and beef, among other goods and services. Trump wrote. "Either a country which has treated the United States unfairly on Trade negotiates a fair deal, or it gets hit with Tariffs".

But the plan magnified objections among many Republicans that the tariffs amount to taxes on American consumers. Sasse released a statement saying "This trade war has been cutting the legs out from under farmers and White House's "plan" is to spend $12 billion on gold crutches".

Those four, as well as Turkey, were slapped with disputes at the World Trade Organization by the U.S.

One week later, autoworkers, foreign ambassadors, and lawmakers spoke out against new potential tariffs against imported cars and auto parts. Trump has threatened to ratchet that up to more than $500 billion, a move that has left financial markets uneasy.

On Monday, the White House confirmed that Trump was considering removing security clearances from Brennan and other former officials.

His remarks come just ahead of his expected meeting with the European Union commission president, where they will discuss renegotiating trade agreements. The U.S. and European allies have been at odds over the president's tariffs on steel imports and are meeting as the trade dispute threatens to spread to automobile production.
