NK seeks breakthrough by dismantling missile facilities

Satellite images show that North Korea has begun dismantling major facilities at a rocket launching site used to test long-range ballistic missiles, a USA think tank said.

The South Korean Presidential Office welcomed the North's dismantlement of its missile launch site on Tuesday.

Kim Jong-Un and Donald Trump met in Singapore in June.

This July 22, 2018, satellite image released and annotated by 38 North on Monday, July 23, 2018, shows what the USA research group says is the dismantled engine test stand at the Sohae launch site in North Korea.

Report says images indicate North Korea dismantling test site facilities

North Korea reportedly believes it has made sufficient concessions - namely its freeze on weapons testing, the destruction of the Punggye-ri nuclear test site, and the imminent return of the remains of US war dead - to warrant the start of talks on a peace treaty.

Joel Wit, founder of 38 North and former State Department official, said numerous facilities that are being razed are relatively new and have only been in place within the last two years.

"We've been pressing for there to be inspectors on the ground when that engine test facility is dismantled, consistent with Mr. Kim's commitment", Pompeo said at a news briefing following meetings with his Australian counterpart.

"A Rocket has not been launched by North Korea in 9 months".

The move is said to be the dictatorship's first step towards fulfilling a pledge made to the US President Donald Trump in June. "Likewise, no Nuclear Tests. Japan is happy, all of Asia is happy", Trump wrote earlier Monday.

North Korea insists that its space exploration program is purely civilian, but numerous technologies needed to place a satellite in orbit are similar to those needed to deliver a nuclear warhead to another continent. The president didn't identify the exact site, sparking speculations that North Korea may not be transparent about its activities.

After the summit, Trump had declared the North Korean nuclear threat was effectively over, and United States media reports suggest he is privately furious at the lack of any subsequent progress on the denuclearisation issue. But the Fake News is saying, without ever asking me (always anonymous sources), that I am angry because it is not going fast enough.

Gaza truce largely holds after Israeli strikes over soldier death
At least two projectiles were launched and intercepted by the Iron Dome system and another fell in an open field, the army said. Friday's violence comes after almost four months of protests by Palestinians along the fence with Israel.

USA soldiers stand guard next to the United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission (UNCMAC) conference buildings at the truce village of Panmunjom in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in Paju, South Korea, on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

The North Koreans "aren't doing this for any other reason", Wit said.

The nearby Vertical Engine Test Stand also shows signs of work taking place.

On Monday, the U.S. State, Treasury and Homeland Security departments said, "The global community can not let up on pressure" until North Korea ends its nuclear weapons program.
