One person dies, 130 buildings destroyed in USA wildfires

HORNBROOK Ore. – A local community is being partially evacuated due to a wildfire in Siskiyou County

Scott McLean, deputy chief of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, said the supertanker was undergoing checks at an airfield outside Sacramento.

120 fire fighters are battling to contain the blaze, which has destroyed 20 structures, KEYT reported.

Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors chair Ray Haupt says the blaze moved so fast it quickly reached Hornbrook, a community of about 250 people about 14 miles (22 kilometers) south of the OR border.

"Firefighters will continue to do aggressive mop-up of hot spots in the impacted area", the county said in a statement announcing the changes.

OR authorities urged hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts to avoid forests near the state line. Firefighters had begun inspecting the fire zone, which covers an area almost three times the size of San Francisco. Evacuations and road closures were in place in that area as well.

Although rain moderated the fire Thursday, officials are concerned that there will be an increase in behavior over the next few days because of continued warm and dry conditions mixed with atmospheric instability.

"Temperatures at 8 a.m. were ridiculously over 100 degrees" in foothills near Forest Falls and many inland valleys, the National Weather Service said.

Washington state fire crews left this weekend to help fight flames in Colorado.

One of the largest fires burning is the Klamathon Fire in Siskiyou County, which was up to 22,000 acres as of Saturday evening and just 20 percent contained.

One Hornbrook resident has died, and one firefighter is hospitalized with severe burns, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

The law also establishes a disciplinary chamber, which The New York Times said the governing party could use to intimidate judges. Chief Justice Malgorzata Gersdorf , 65, had been told to step down at midnight on Tuesday and a replacement was named.

Thousands have been ordered to evacuate their homes, with the fire only a mile from the city's downtown area, said Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Firefighters are dealing with several major wildfires across Colorado.

Officials issued a flash flood watch for the 220-square-kilometre area burned by a fire that started June 1.

The Holiday fire in Goleta, California, north of Santa Barbara, grew rapidly overnight and is now at a size of 100 acres. At least 132 homes have been destroyed. The wildfire is burning through drought-stricken timber and brush near California's border with OR, authorities said Friday.

Jennifer Jones is a spokesperson with the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise. The blaze has burned about 75 square miles (193 square kilometers) and destroyed 90 structures, including homes, cabins, sheds and garages, since starting Sunday in the mountains. Officials believe human activity sparked the blaze, but an exact cause hasn't been determined.
