IDF Sends Reinforcements to Syria Border as Assad Offensive Intensifies

The UN has estimated that 50,000 people have fled the embattled areas in southern Syria in recent days

However, the Russian negotiators insisted on terms applied in other former rebel-held areas, where insurgents either accepted the return of state rule or left for opposition territory in the north-west along with their families.

Local groups in many towns seized by the army in recent days had negotiated their own surrender deals independently of the main rebel operations rooms after heavy air raids.

State news agency SANA confirmed the deals for the four towns of Dael, Eastern Ghariya, Talul Khlaaf and Tal al-Sheikh Hussein.

The onslaught has sparked fears of a re-run of the offensives a year ago against the rebel enclaves of Aleppo and eastern Ghouta, including deadly bombardments followed by a retaking of territory and an accord to evacuate rebels from the areas. Israel has sent humanitarian aid across the border for several years.

The government offensive that began June 19 has killed scores of people, wounded hundreds of others and forced more than 50,000 to flee to areas close to the borders with Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Cavani optimistic over injury after firing Uruguay into quarter-finals
Portugal's 63-year-old coach Santos said his team's talisman should continue. "The team didn't win because Uruguay scored twice". If he's right about that, he could be playing at not just the next World Cup but the 2026 World Cup as well.

The southwest region of Syria that is now being fought over is part a "de-escalation" zone agreed to by Russian Federation, the United States, and Jordan previous year.

The opposition's chief negotiator in wider U.N. peace talks, Nasr al-Hariri, last week accused the United States of complicity in Assad's southwest offensive, saying American silence could only be explained by "a malicious deal".

Talks to end the Syrian government's offensive on Deraa province collapsed on Saturday after rebels rejected a demand to surrender by regime ally Russian Federation.

The assault has so far targeted Deraa, not rebel-held parts of nearby Quneitra province at the Golan which are more sensitive to Israel.

Talks failed on Saturday after a meeting in which Russian officers met the rebel team and demanded a complete surrender, rebels said.

Germany out of World Cup; Mexico advances despite loss against Sweden
South Korea's superstar Son Heung-min found the ball in Germany's half and slotted it into their unattended net. Everyone was waiting for Germany to score another late World Cup-saving goal.

A ceasefire has been agreed for southern Syria between the government and rebels, a Jordanian official source said on Friday, amid fears of a gathering humanitarian catastrophe in a region sensitive to neighbors Jordan and Israel.

At least 270,000 people have fled their homes in south-western Syria since the military launched an assault on rebel-held areas two weeks ago, the United Nations says.

HTS is primarily headquartered in northwestern Syria's Idlib province, but maintains a limited presence in Daraa province. There were contradictory reports over whether it had also gained the areas of al-Musayfra and Kuheil in eastern Deraa, and Tafas, al-Muzairib and Sheikh Saad in western Deraa.

Fighting had died down on most fronts Sunday with the exception of areas near Tafas in Daraa's northwest which was hit by regime air strikes, according to the monitor.

Almost 100 civilians have been killed since the assault began on June 19 with airstrikes, rocket fire and crude barrel bombs.

Germany is the third straight World Cup holder to exit early
As a result of the group stage of the World Cup , the Russian team reached the 1/8 finals for the first time in history. But a 2-0 defeat to South Korea in the third group game sealed their fate and sees them heading home early.
