North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un Visits China

The Dokdo islands- known as Takeshima in Japan- are claimed by both Seoul and TokyoMore

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un returned to China Tuesday, June 19 to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

Trump's decision to suspend the exercises, coupled with the vague joint statement issued after his summit with Kim, have reinforced fears in South Korea that the North is attempting to take advantage of a USA president who appears to care less about the traditional alliance than his predecessors.

Analysts believe Kim is in China to brief Xi on the summit, seek economic assistance, as well as pay deference to Beijing, eager to emphasise its role in talks between North Korea, the US, and South Korea.

The two leaders signed a joint statement that said the US would give unspecified "security guarantees" to Pyongyang, while Kim pledged to the "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

A motorcade was seen leaving the airport in vehicles that were not apparently carrying flags. While Pompeo was the head of the CIA, North Korea accused the organization of trying to assassinate Kim.

Anticipation over what comes next is swirling amid concern from regional experts, who've argued North Korea (DPRK) and its allies China and Russian Federation came away the big winners of the summit.

Trump orders tariffs on $200B more Chinese goods
President Donald Trump pumps his fist as he leaves a meeting Monday in the East Room of the White House in Washington. He said he would pursue additional tariffs on another $200 billion worth of goods, for a grand total of $450 billion.

Mr. Lim went on to argue that the joint statements signed at the Trump-Kim Singapore summit and at a previous summit in April between Mr. Moon and Mr. Kim may be more significant that anything achieved during years of past multinational negotiations with Pyongyang - specifically because the joint statements were inked by the top leaders of all three nations. The US had always insisted they are purely defensive in nature.

Kuhn reports that "North Korean leaders have in past always traveled to China in armored trains, and kept the visit secret until after it was over, apparently because they feared assassination attempts".

There was also confusion over Mr Trump calling the drills "provocative", a term hitherto used by North Korea to describe them.

Following the Kim-Trump summit, China hinted that some sanctions relief could be considered if North Korea takes denuclearization steps, and that for Beijing the sanctions are not the goal in themselves. But on Tuesday the US and South Korean militaries confirmed they have called off a major joint exercise following Trump's order.

This marks Kim's third visit to China.

Noh also downplayed concerns that improving relations between China and North Korea could result in loosened Chinese sanctions against North Korea, saying that Beijing has repeatedly stated its commitment to U.N. Security Council resolutions against the North.

Trump's Former Campaign Manager Jailed
Kilimnik, who prosecutors say lives in Russian Federation , did not appear in court or respond to an email seeking comment Friday. Manafort is the first former member of Trump's presidential campaign to be jailed in connection with the Mueller investigation.

Xi said he was pleased to see North Korea's decision to promote economic reforms, adding that China's own reform and opening up process had meant the Chinese people's eyes had been open to the world.

"[Xi] has really closed up that border", the President said, in comments in which he thanked the Chinese President for his role in bringing Kim to the negotiating table.

Citing diplomatic sources, Japanese news agency Kyodo said a "high-ranking North Korean official, possibly Kim" was due to visit Beijing by air.

A trade war with the US could make it less attractive for China to use its influence over North Korea to help the USA achieve its objectives of denuclearization.

Hours earlier on Monday evening Trump threatened to escalate a trade fight with China into an all-out trade war with further tariffs on $200 billion worth of goods.

"China will continue to play a positive role in this process, ?"
