Attack in Somalia Kills U.S. Service Member, Wounds Others

US soldier killed 4 others wounded in ‘enemy attack’ in Somalia

The U.S. said its personnel had provided advice, assistance and aerial surveillance during the mission.

A US Africa Commander said US troops with Somalian and Kenyan forces came under mortar and small-arms fire in Jubaland, Somalia on Friday.

In a statement, the USA military said on Friday one local soldier was also wounded in the attack that also involved Somali and Kenyan forces.

The attack occurred in Jubaland, where a large force comprising about 800 Somali, Kenyan and U.S. troops were working to clear a large area of Al-Qaeda-aligned Al-Shabaab fighters.

Four others were wounded as well during an ambush attack conducted by the Islamic extremist group al-Shabab in the southwestern part of the country.

NASA Reveals Organic Molecules and Seasonal Methane Spikes Found on Mars
Methane is also quickly broken down by ultraviolet radiation, so any of the gas discovered on Mars was probably released recently. JPL's Christopher Webster, lead author on the study, said it's the first time Martian methane has shown a repeated pattern.

About 500 USA troops are deployed in Somalia.

The terrorist group al-Shabaab, the local al-Qaeda affiliate, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the families of our serviceman who was killed and his fellow servicemen who were wounded in Somolia (sic)", he tweeted.

President Donald Trump shared his condolences in a Twitter message Friday evening.

One US service member reportedly received sufficient medical care at the scene and three others were transported out of the area to receive treatment. It was pushed out of Mogadishu in recent years but continues to control rural areas in the south and central regions.

His ocean-view property sits on a ridge near the base of Kapoho crater, and he thinks the lava could have missed it. Lava has inundated most of Vacationland and has covered all but the northern part of Kapoho Beach Lots.

The attack was described as complex in nature, with the enemy coordinating their fires resulting in one American soldier Killed in Action and five Wounded in Action, which only left half of the team uninjured by the end of the firefight. Names of the soldiers were not immediately released, while next of kin were notified.

The American forces were operating alongside Somali troops.

The US had pulled out of the Horn of Africa nation after 1993, when two helicopters were shot down in Mogadishu and bodies of Americans were dragged through the streets.

It follows the death of four United States soldiers in Niger last October in an ambush attack that raised questions about the continuing role of American forces in Africa.

Late a year ago USA drone strikes also began targeting a small presence of fighters linked to the Islamic State group in Somalia's north.

Manchester United Announce The Signing Of Fred Rodrigues
Chelsea winger Willian has backed global team-mate Fred to succeed in the Premier League with Manchester United . A stunning free-kick in the first leg of that tie was a glimpse of what Fred's talented left foot can produce.

A USA military report on that incident publicized by the Pentagon last month without being fully released found that multiple individual and institutional failures left the US troops vulnerable to the ambush.
