Cambridge Analytica raided as privacy catastrophe unfurls

The office said the inquiry would "consider how political parties and campaigns, data analytics companies and social media platforms in the United Kingdom are using and analyzing people's personal information to micro target voters".

Around 20 offices of the firm were searched after a High Court judge granted the search warrant.

Brittany Kaiser, a business development director at the company from 2014 until earlier this year, said in an interview that Cambridge Analytica was carrying out data crunching and analysis work for Leave.EU, while publicly denying it was doing so.

The regulator said it will "consider the evidence before deciding the next steps and coming to any conclusions".

It has now been a week since it became known that the British data analytics contractor, which worked with Donald Trump's presidential campaign, retained private data from 50 million Facebook users despite claiming to have deleted it. United States lawmakers on Friday had asked Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg to come to Congress to explain the cause of the breach.

The commissioner said she wanted to access the firm's servers in order to investigate the use of personal data in political campaigns.

It opened its formal investigation into the use of data analytics for political purposes in May 2017. "It had nothing to do with us", Mr. Banks was quoted as saying.

The company has seen its stock market value plunge by around $75 million amid the crisis, as shares closed the week down 13 percent - their worst seven days since July 2012.

The plan also talks about company's plans on driving systems, vehicle connectivity and autonomous driving technology. The company is also targeting an 8% core operating profit margin and cumulative free cash flow of 2.5 trillion yen.

"Should anything emerge from this review, or from our request to Facebook, the University will take any action necessary in accordance with our policies and procedures", it said in a statement. Other defendants include Robert Leroy Mercer, a wealthy NY investor in Cambridge Analytica, and Aleksandr Kogan, a professor at Cambridge University.
