Iran rebuffs French FM demands to curb missiles on Tehran visit

France, the U.S. and the United Nations say Iran supplies ballistic missile technology to Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have fired the weapons into Saudi Arabia.

He official said that those machines could be brought back into full service if the 2015 nuclear deal - formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action - were to collapse. Separately, Iran confirmed that the Iranian foreign minister had met his former United States counterpart John Kerry on the sidelines of a Munich meeting last month.

Qassemi blasted attempts to link Iranian missiles to other issues, including the nuclear deal, saying Iran "will not [ask] permission from anyone on how to regulate these policies and will not allow any country to interfere in such issues and Iran's policies and will not hold talks on such cases".

That continued with Iran's armed forces spokesman Gen. Masoud Jazayeri, who this weekend said Tehran only would give up its missiles when the West abandons nuclear weapons.

Iran has long said publicly that it intends to develop nuclear propulsion for naval vessels, though analysts and diplomats say this remains a distant prospect.

Iran has stayed within the deal's restrictions since Trump took office but has fired diplomatic warning shots at Washington in recent weeks.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to withdraw the United States from the landmark 2015 agreement, and a year ago refused to confirm to Congress that it is in America's national security interest.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday voiced his support for the 2015 nuclear deal which limited Iran's nuclear activities in returns for the lift of western sanctions against Tehran.

He said that both countries have new plans for boosting cooperation in monetary and banking interactions.
