Salmonella outbreak linked to Kratom

Kratom supplements have a new side effect: Salmonella

FDA and CDC are investigating a multi-state Salmonella outbreak that appears to be caused by kratom, a plant used as an opioid substitute.

No manufacturer, brand or supplier of kratom-containing products has been named in relation to this outbreak as of yet, but the FDA and CDC are working to identify the source.

Cases have also been reported in Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and OR to name a few. Food and Drug Administration [FDA] advocated consumers not to utilize Kratom based on the agency's discovery that it contained opioid compounds.

Of the 11 individuals who have been met for the salmonella examination, eight detailed expending kratom in pills, powder or tea.

The CBI and other Indian investigative agencies searched dozens of offices and residences used by Modi and his business partners. We will know the charges when the CBI files charge-sheet and then only some strategy can be worked out".

In an earlier statement issued last fall, Gottlieb warned that the agency knew of 36 deaths linked to kratom use.

While the supplements had been meant to be used to help people with weight loss, there have been reports of people using them as an alternative to prescription opioids.

The FDA is overseeing the recall and destruction of dietary supplements containing Kratom.

In the meantime, the Drug Enforcement Administration is looking at restriction on the sales of kratom, which is available online.

Chinese anger after terracotta warrior's thumb stolen in US
Museum staff noticed the missing thumb January 8, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation traced it to Rohana five days later. Mr Rohana is then alleged to have snapped off the 2,000-year-old statue's thumb and slipped it in his pocket.

Kratom does, in fact, have some of the same effects on the brain as opioid drugs, which is why it is used by some as a natural pain reliever.

The CDC is reporting 1 case of Salmonella poison in Alabama but no deaths.

Kratom is marketed as a plant-based supplement to treat pain, anxiety and depression but its similarities to opioids have raised concerns that it can be addictive and unsafe. There are now no FDA-approved therapeutic uses of kratom and importantly, the FDA has evidence to show that there are significant safety issues associated with its use.

Notwithstanding lightening torment, kratom is expended for its stimulant impacts and used to treat heroin or morphine reliance, as it is said to lessen withdrawal desires. "There are three FDA-approved products that are safe and effective for the treatment of opioid use disorder and we encourage patients to seek advice from their health care professional and pursue treatment for addiction".
