"Senate District 10 special election win by a Democrat is a wake up call for Republicans in Wisconsin", Mr Walker tweeted.

Schachtner will replace Republican Sheila Harsdorf, who resigned to serve as state agriculture secretary. According to a Wisconsin State Journal report, Jarchow reported that he raised $240,00 in addition to loaning himself $50,000, while Schachtner raised $180,000. Libertarian Brian Corriea of Wilson collected 1.2 percent of the votes. It was carried by Mitt Romney during the 2012 presidential election - even though he lost Wisconsin overall, as well as by Donald Trump (by a 55-38 margin) during the 2016 presidential election.

"I was shocked", UW-Stout political scientist Rich Postlewaite said.

It's often said that "special elections are special", and that's certainly true. Schachtner says her victory could be a bad sign for Republicans statewide.

"People sent a message tonight we don't want to be negative any more", she said. "That made me come across as authentic and kind and nice and approachable, and I think that had a lot to do with it". She acknowledged once falling behind with bills when her kids were in school but said she repaid all of her debt.

20 cities shortlisted for Amazon's second headquarters
Toronto was the only Canadian city to make Amazon's list of top 20 contenders for its next base of North American operations. The online retailer announced Wednesday that it has narrowed its list of possible locations to 20 metropolitan areas.

Can't presume that voters know we are getting positive things done in Wisconsin. Inspiring young people to move to our region for recreation, thriving local business, and broadband capabilities will bring more teachers and other professionals. "That happens to people all the time", Schachtner says.

Just how much has the political climate changed since 2106?

"I'd attribute this win to a great candidate, a robust field program we ran, and Patty's message resonating with voters who are dissatisfied with the Republican agenda", said Senate Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling, D-La Crosse. Walker holds a significant fundraising advantage over a sprawling field of Democrats, but faces his first re-election with an unpopular Republican president in the White House.

Here's what she said as a candidate on a questionnaire by the Hudson Star Observer in response to this query: "What should the state do about attracting and retaining teachers in Wisconsin, especially rural areas?"

"(Tuesday's) victory is only the beginning.

Rian Johnson nearly rewrote The Last Jedi after Carrie Fisher's death
So what happened here? Of course, if there's anyone who can speak for the franchise, it's Luke Skywalker himself. We're living in an age of reboots and franchises that lean heavily on what came before.

While those looking on are talking about Schachtner flipping a red seat to blue, she isn't quite as concerned with her political affiliation.

With perhaps a touch of melodrama, a story in Newsweek calls Schachtner's win a "portent of doom for the Republican Party".

So should this election result worry Republicans? "President Donald Trump-along with Speaker Paul Ryan and Gov. Scott Walker who support and prop him up-are toxically unpopular and divisive", the state Democratic Party declared Tuesday night.

"Here I am watching Morning Joe (on MSNBC) and they're talking about the Senate District 10 race - it's remarkable", Kraus said.
