Trump Fires Entire HIV/AIDS Council Via FedEx, No Reason Given

The remaining members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS were fired en masse this week.

Schoettes and five other members stepped down from the panel in June, claiming in a scathing letter that Trump "simply does not care" about HIV and the LGBTQ community.

Newsweek reports that the 16 members received their notice of termination by FedEx mail on Wednesday.

PACHA was founded during the Clinton administration amid the AIDS" crisis peak in the "90s-over 500,000 AIDS cases were reported in 1995 alone-and was created to help presidents manage policy and research on HIV and AIDS.

Scott Schoettes, one of the "PACHA 6" who resigned in the summer, tweeted that the remaining members of the council had been fired for calling the Trump White House's approach to the HIV/AIDS epidemic "dangerous".

Several who sat on the committee resigned in June of this year, citing inaction and apathy on the part of the administration regarding issues related to HIV/AIDS. "Two, many of us, our terms were over earlier this year and we were sworn back in, and three were stayed on almost four months after an executive order was signed continuing the council". Its most recent meeting took place in August, Sullivan said, and by November, an archived version of PACHA's website shows the group was down to 10 members and two staff. "Like any administration, they want their own people there". The Obama administration eliminated all of George W. Bush's appointees in the same way.

He also mentioned different priorities between the current administration and former council members. "Two, many of us, our terms were over earlier this year and we were sworn back in, and three were stayed on almost four months after an executive order was signed continuing the council". The president's 2018 fiscal year budget seeks $150 million in cuts from HIV research at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and more than than $1 billion removed from programs like the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. "That would serve the needs of neither the president nor of people living with HIV-AIDS". Coming six months after the resignations, the firings are "a little too coincidental", he added.

Ben Plumley, Chief Executive Officer of Pangaea, an worldwide HIV organization that works with funders and national governments to help at-risk populations, has said that if the USA lets HIV go unchecked at home and overseas, it will destabilize each country's national security.

More pregnant women smoking marijuana for morning sickness
As it turns out, the research remains unclear as to just how little a pregnant woman could drink without harming her child. The study suggests that more women tend to use marijuana sometimes to sooth anxiety and morning sickness.
